Punta Laguna Natural Protected Area and Rural Communities
Min Age : 4+
Max People : 13
The extraordinary plants and animals that witnessed the rise and evolution of the Maya are still abundant and roaming the area.

Punta Laguna (The spider monkey Reserve) is a rural Maya community immersed in the dense canopy of the tropical forest. This reserve has been conserved by the local community which recognizes it as a special land with diverse plants and animals.

This Mayan community preserves much of their traditions and customs and they will guide us through the amazing natural environment, walking on the Maya trails looking for wildlife, learning about the trees and their medicinal properties. It is still possible to observe troops of spider and howler monkey eating chicozapote fruits or see large flocks of colorful parrots returning to their roost in the evening.

After walking through the magical passageways of the jungle and its wildlife, you will find yourself immersed in transparent lagoon giving life to this sustainable ecosystem. As optional activities, we can cross the lagoon by canoe paddling into the other side of the jungle, fly with the zip line on top of this landscape and be part of a small sacred Maya ceremony.

We will explore a hidden cenote and at the end, we will have the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating culture by enjoying a delicious fresh meal prepared by the people of the community.

Punta Laguna Natural Reserve

My Y.O. Story

“This was hands down the best tour we did during our stay on the Yucatan Peninsula! Our day was jam packed with numerous activities from hiking on the Punta Laguna Reserve with spider monkeys to diving into beautiful cenotes. Our guides Andres and Ocho were extremely informative, friendly, and super cool! We also enjoyed learning how to make corn tortillas in a Mayan community and visiting a white tailed deer conservation farm in the town. Thanks for the unforgettable experience- highly recommend this tour!.”
McCormick - San Francisco, California.

“Wildlife Jungle Hiking Trip with Hugo Estrada was especially wonderful because we got to visit a Maya community, watch spider and howler monkeys as they swung through the trees and negotiated over territory, jump 30 feet into a cenote, meet a local activist working to maintain native species, and have a delicious home-cooked meal. YO is a relatively small organization filled with local people who shared their love of their community and environment with us. It was warm and personal.”
Cindy and Paul - Newton, Massachusetts
